My Heart Aches - Artifact: Calash
Artifact: Calash
This work is a one-of-a-kind, giclee reproduction of a mixed media painting which expresses the artist's feelings about our current and past oppression and punishment of minority groups in our country. Lydia Childs, an abolitionist and suffragist, expressed similar outrage in her writings and actions (e.g., wearing this calash until the slaves were freed).

About Judith Stein
I am a mixed media artist with a home studio in Needham, MA. For years, I have loved painting abstract landscapes and pure abstracts. My favorite medium has been oil paint mixed with cold wax medium. During the past two years, I have broadened my art practice to incorporate collage work and printing techniques. More recently, I have been exploring eco printing techniques using natural dyes to imprint the shapes, patterns, and colors of leaves and flowers onto paper. Through this process, nature is transformed into a unique piece of art that is personal, precious, and permanent.
