About Raphaëlle Cruz
Nestled in the heart of Sudbury’s marshes and wetlands, a vibrant tapestry of birdlife awaited discovery during the quiet months of the pandemic. Armed with a telephoto lens and a sense of wonder, I set out to document the hundreds of avian species thriving in these lush habitats. Among them, the Great Blue Heron and Green Heron quickly captured my fascination. My ongoing observations have revealed the intricacies of their lives, from the rhythms of migration and the art of hunting, to the delicate rituals of nesting and rearing young. Witnessing the transformation as chicks branch out, take their first flights, and learn to hunt independently has deepened my appreciation for the resilience and beauty of these remarkable birds.
