About Gail Sillman
My work as a potter is a balance between mindful practice and functional craft. I am deeply drawn to the meditative state of the wheel, where the physical act of throwing becomes a moving sanctuary. While I particularly love working with porcelain for the way the smooth clay glides through my fingers, I choose my clay bodies based on the specific atmosphere I want to create. I often turn to brown stoneware to capture rich, earthy tones and textures that porcelain cannot provide—especially when exploring the unique, atmospheric effects of soda firing. Whether through the refined elegance of porcelain or the rugged warmth of stoneware, my goal is to create intentional, handmade pieces that bring a sense of groundedness and tactile beauty to the rituals of daily life.
