Arts Wayland and the Wayland Museum & Historical Society are teaming up for a Spring 2026 call and response exhibition.

A JURY PRIZE AWARDS EXHIBITION



CALL FOR ART

In honor of America's 250th anniversary (Semiquincentennial), we're inviting artists to bridge the past and the present. How can historical objects and contemporary art create meaningful dialogue about liberty, freedom, and the pursuit of happiness?
Artists, browse the 10 artifacts from the Museum collection online or visit the Historical Museum to see them in person. Then create an artwork inspired by these pieces and the theme.

Suggestions for artists in creating art in relation to the 10 artifacts from the Wayland Historical Museum

SUBMISSIONS & EXHIBITS

  • The artwork submitted will be juried by Christie Jackson, Curator and Director of Exhibitions at the Concord Museum.
  • This exhibit is open to ALL artists. Free for Arts Wayland & Historical Society members. Registration fee of $25 required for non-members.
  • 2D and 3D artworks accepted.
  • Digital Work accepted: Artist can provide tablet for display if possible.
  • Artists can submit up to 5 artworks related to the artifacts provided by the Wayland Museum.
  • Artwork(s) selected must be dropped at the Arts Wayland Gallery. No shipping allowed.
  • All selected artworks will be first displayed and for sale at the Arts Wayland Gallery during the month of May, 35 Andrew Avenue, Wayland MA and on-line.
  • Some artifacts from the museum will be displayed along with the selected artworks.
  • The Juror will select 10 artworks that best represent the artifacts or the theme.
  • These will be displayed and for sale at the Wayland Museum June through July, 12 Cochituate Rd, Wayland, MA 01778
  • SOLD artworks must remain available for display the remaining of the exhibits.

ARTS WAYLAND GALLERY EXHIBIT (Phase 1)

Jury selected artworks will be displayed and for sale at the Arts Wayland Gallery in May

  • Exhibit Dates: May 1st - May 30th at the Arts Wayland Gallery
  • Submission deadline (moved to): Saturday, April 25th (11:59 PM)
  • Notification of acceptance: Tuesday, April 28th (after 6:00 PM)
  • Drop-Off: Friday, May 1st at the Arts Wayland Gallery. Any time
  • Reception and Announcement of the 10 pieces selected for the Wayland Museum exhibit: Saturday, May 9th at 3:00 pm at the gallery
  • Pick-up: Saturday, May 30th at the Arts Wayland Gallery. (Pick-up is for artworks not selected for display at the Wayland Museum)

WAYLAND MUSEUM EXHIBIT (Phase 2)

10 selected artworks will be displayed and for sale at the Wayland Museum in June - July

  • June 1st: 10 selected artworks move from Arts Wayland Gallery to Wayland Museum
  • Exhibit Dates: June 1st - July 31st at the Wayland Museum and Historical Society
  • Reception: Sunday, June 21, 12-4pm at the Wayland Museum
  • Pick-up: Friday, July 31st at the Wayland Museum

AWARDS

(Depending upon the number of entries, the Juror may not be able to present all the awards.)

From the 10 artworks selected for the museum exhibition:

  • FIRST PRIZE: $500
  • SECOND PRIZE: $300
  • THIRD PRIZE: $100
  • Remaining 7 Finalists: $60 each

From all submissions:

  • 3 Honorable Mentions: $40 each
