Arwork title: The New Kid
Arwork brief description: In our current climate, immigrants and foreign students are being targeted and labeled as undesirables and even criminals. It is important to remember that we are a nation of immigrants. By unexpectedly reversing the minority/majority and racial/cultural identities, this painting reminds us all, of what it feels like to be an immigrant. In a more nuanced way, the image also challenges the idea of American exceptionalism.
