Freedom in Flux: Buddha Revisited

Artist name: Judith Stein
Artist bio: I am a mixed media artist with a home studio in Needham, MA. I enjoy combining painting with collage, printing using a gelli-plate and more recently, eco-printing (a process in which botanical materials are exposed to natural substances such as iron, avocado, beets, and onion skins to create botanical prints on paper or fabric). I have also dabbled in encaustic work.

Arwork title: Buddha Revisited
Arwork brief description: This encaustic piece is based on my photograph of a sculpture of Buddha exhibited at the MFA. My goal in submitting this piece is to remind us of an important principle of Buddha's teaching: that greed, hatred, and ignorance prevent us from experiencing freedom as an individual or as a society. Sadly, Americans are confronted daily by these three forces ( greed, hatred and ignorance) at a level never seen before since the Gilded Age. As a result, our freedoms are declining at an alarmingly rapid pace.
Artwork medium: Encaustic
