Topic: Technology - a Tool for Creating or Cheating? 

Many of us use technology, in one way or another, in making our art. For creative writers, using computers to check spelling and grammar or to research historical facts, is generally considered acceptable. But the use of AI to generate text is simultaneously frowned upon and difficult to detect. For visual artists, the rules are not as clear.

Digital sketches provide a quick way to study a concept before committing it to canvas. Digital reference photos are useful for recalling specific moments in time or when live models are not available. But is projecting and tracing a photo, particularly your own, onto the canvas fair game, as long as you make no attempts to hide your technique? 

Technological tools are only going to get better and more accessible and tempting. Come and share your experiences with technology and how “far” you are willing to go with it. And note that the difference between “creating” and “cheating” is just a single letter.

Whether you’re a practicing artist, just beginning your creative journey, or simply interested in the artistic process, this discussion is open to everyone. Light refreshments will be served.
