Hanging Garden

This artwork is an original eco print on watercolor paper, framed in a black wooden frame. Eco printing is a process in which botanical elements are bundled in direct contact with paper treated with mineral salts and other natural substances and then submerged in boiling water. Through this process, the leaves and flowers leave a beautiful painterly imprint on the paper. The process is a bit mysterious and the results are always full of surprises which make this process an exciting and joyous one!

About Judith Stein
I am a mixed media artist with a home studio in Needham, MA. For years, I have loved painting abstract landscapes and pure abstracts. My favorite medium has been oil paint mixed with cold wax medium. The cold wax enhances the luminosity and transparency of oil paints and allows the paint to dry faster. During the past two years, I have broadened my art practice to incorporate collage work and printing techniques. More recently, I have been exploring eco printing techniques using natural dyes to imprint the shapes, patterns, and colors of leaves and flowers onto paper. Through this process, nature is transformed into a unique piece of art that is personal, precious, and permanent.
