Nicole Mordecai

Photography is my way of exploring, seeing, and celebrating the world around me. After decades in software design, I find in photography a medium that balances technical precision with a personal vision. My work captures vibrant detail in our everyday surroundings, inviting viewers to see the familiar in new ways. I often take photographs to see the world more clearly. In real life, I could never see a sea lion’s whiskers, the details of a fox's fur, or inside the windows of a far-away building. Ironically for a photographer, I have low vision and can barely see many of the things I photograph without the aid of my long lens. I feel a thrill every time I load new images onto my big computer screen and see my images up close.

I am a photographer based in Weston, MA. Photography is my second career after working for decades in the software industry as a software designer and research project lead. I started photography in the digital age, loving the immediate gratification of digital images. In addition to creating art photography, I work with clients to document community events, create images for their online presence, or capture candid family, pet, and sports photos. I teach basic photography skills including iPhone photography, creative photography, and wildlife photography. I also work with private clients, teaching photo editing in Photoshop and Lightroom.
