Warm lights glow in the windows, street lanterns flicker on, and little shops like Cafe Sunshine, Books & Cups, a hat shop, a hotel and a gelato stand invite one last evening stroll by the river. I trained at an art school in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg, Russia), and I’ve always preferred graphic media: watercolor, ink, pastel and pencil. I love how watercolor builds layer by layer, with each one adding more light and story. My favorite subject is whimsical houses: crooked cottages, lighthouses, castles and tall narrow homes covered in flowers and tiny details. Each one starts as a pencil sketch and grows into a place that feels almost real, but not quite. My art lives on the line between the real world and imagination, and I try to keep it there, never slipping into plain realism or pure fantasy. I also paint quiet forest scenes and illustrated the children’s book Whimsical Way: A Curious Journey on a Special Street.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0511/9154/6031/files/2026_November_Porto_25x19-BorisRudelson_f97001da-569c-4044-bb62-53e7824b697c.jpg?v=1793259243
