On April 19, 1775, during the Battles of Lexington and Concord, alarm riders spread the news across the region. Men from Wayland joined others from neighboring towns, marching toward Concord to confront British forces. Even if not all arrived in time for the first shots, they contributed to the growing militia force that harassed British troops during their retreat to Boston. Today, Wayland’s Minutemen represent the idea of ordinary citizens stepping into extraordinary roles.
