Nesting Series #9
Monotype, Oil on Paper by Sharon Whitham
About Sharon Whitham
I am a printmaker and mixed-media artist. I spend part of each year working out of my studio in Boston, living on an island off the coast of Maine, and creating art in Mexico. My work is inspired by both nature and culture, focused on themes of connectedness, balance, loss and change. I am interested in the organic shapes and patterns in nature as well as their impermanence. My recent work is influenced by the current crises around immigration, climate change, tolerance, equality, and justice. These pieces are from my ‘Nesting’ series, created during this pandemic time when I felt a need to be calm, secure and look forward to a time of renewing and re-emerging. I majored in Fine Arts at Ramapo College of New Jersey, and hold degrees from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and Harvard University in Boston. I am represented by Artemis Gallery (Northeast Harbor, ME), Mystic Osprey Gallery (Beaufort, SC) and BostonArt at the Boston Design Center. My work is shown regularly throughout the New England area as well as at national and international galleries and exhibitions.
