8 Week Online Course: Aug. 6, 13, 20, Sept. 3, 10, 17, 24, Oct. 1st

Cost: $360 ($45 per 1.5 hour class)

Max: 6 Students

Instructor: Mei-Ling Ellerman

Local artist and drawing teacher Mei-Ling Ellerman will be teaching her drawing course for children through ArtsWayland. She has adapted her adult course for children, because she believes that if children this age are interested in drawing, they will really benefit from professional instruction. This course will help build their knowledge, techniques, skills, and confidence.

She keeps her classes small so each student can receive the individualized feedback that will help improve both their ability to observe and draw more accurately. These skills of observation and drawing will help them in many other disciplines and areas of art and life. Students will draw subjects ranging from animals, to fruit, and still life, using graphite pencils, colored pencils, and conte crayons. They will learn about contour drawing, negative space, proportions, perspective, and shading techniques.

Testimonials from the Youth Drawing Course

My ten-year-old daughter had the pleasure of taking Ms. Ellerman’s Learning To Draw For Life – Level 1 this spring. We were amazed at the quality of the instruction and the work that our daughter produced in the class. The class was the perfect introduction to drawing technique for someone of her age and ability level. Ms. Ellerman created a supportive environment in which young artists could feel comfortable and confident sharing their work. At the same time, Ms. Ellerman knew precisely how to offer constructive criticism and push students to improve and tweak their work in a non-threatening, productive way. The course was well-organized, well-taught, and fun! I would recommend this class for students who already enjoy drawing and want to take their skill set to the next level.  My daughter looks forward to continuing to cultivate her love of drawing under Ms. Ellerman’s direction.

My daughter Olivia loves taking art classes with Mei-Ling. She looks forward to the class time every week and is always excited to find out what they will draw that week. Mei-Ling has a very calm temperament and gives clear instructions which are easy to follow. She is very patient and is able to bring out the full potential of her students. The class size is kept small so that all students can have a good amount of attention from the instructor. Olivia says she enjoys being in Mei-Ling's class as Mei-Ling draws very well, gives good positive feedback and is always very encouraging. Olivia is looking forward to taking more classes and learning more drawing techniques from Mei-Ling!
